1. Educational information only
Everything Smart Money shows you — budgets, forecasts, tax figures, retirement projections, debt payoff plans, investment summaries, insights and chat answers — is general educational information about data you entered or authorised us to read.
It is not financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, legal advice or accounting advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security, fund, insurance product or account type. It is not tailored to your full circumstances, because we do not know your full circumstances.
Before acting, speak to a professional who is licensed where you live: in Canada, an adviser registered with your provincial securities commission or a CPA; in the United States, an SEC- or state-registered investment adviser, CFP® or CPA.
2. We are not registered, and we are not your fiduciary
ELI EISENBACH, Canada is not registered as a dealer, adviser, investment fund manager, portfolio manager or exempt market dealer with any Canadian securities regulator (including the CSA, OSC and AMF), is not a member of CIRO, and is not covered by the Canadian Investor Protection Fund.
It is not registered with the SEC or FINRA, is not a broker-dealer, and is not a bank, credit union or money services business. Nothing you hold with us is insured by CDIC, FDIC or SIPC, because we do not hold assets or money.
We owe you no fiduciary or suitability duty. We do not know your risk tolerance, and nothing in the product should be read as an assessment of it.
3. Investment risk
Investing involves risk, including the total loss of the amount invested. The value of investments goes down as well as up. Currency movements between CAD and USD can add or remove value independently of the underlying asset.
Past performance does not predict future results. Any historical return, chart or index figure shown is history, not a forecast.
Every projection in the app is a mathematical extrapolation of assumptions you or we chose — a rate of return, an inflation figure, a time horizon, a contribution level. Change any assumption and the answer changes. Projections are not guarantees, promises or estimates of what you will actually have.
4. No earnings or savings claim
We make no representation that using Smart Money will increase your income, reduce your expenses, pay off your debt faster or grow your net worth. Any figure, example or scenario in the product or in our marketing is an illustration, not a typical result and not a promise.
Your results depend on your income, your spending, market conditions, tax rules and decisions we have no part in.
5. Tax figures
Tax-planning content covers Canadian and United States personal tax concepts — RRSP, TFSA, FHSA, RESP, 401(k), IRA, Roth, HSA, 529 and cross-border issues — at a general level. Rates, brackets and contribution limits change, and the correct treatment depends on your residency, filing status and history.
Nothing here is a tax return, a tax opinion or a substitute for advice from a CPA, CPA(US) or cross-border tax specialist. Do not file on the strength of a number you saw in this app.
6. Data accuracy and where the numbers come from
- Transactions and balances you see come from your bank via Plaid or Salt Edge, or from what you entered by hand. Bank feeds can be delayed, duplicated, re-categorised by the institution, or temporarily unavailable.
- Security and index prices come from third-party market data providers, are delayed, and are for information only — never for trading decisions or valuation of a real position.
- Currency conversion uses a periodically refreshed reference rate, not the rate your bank will actually give you.
- Categories, merchant names and receipt amounts may be assigned automatically and can be wrong.
Your financial institution's own statement always prevails over what Smart Money displays. Check anything before you rely on it, and correct it in the app if it is wrong.
7. How the calculations work
We would rather you understood the maths than trusted it. In summary:
- Net worth = total assets (including connected account balances and investment positions at last-known price) minus total liabilities. Assets you have not told us about are not counted.
- Cash-flow forecast projects the coming months from your recorded recurring income and expenses plus detected repeating patterns. One-off items are not projected forward.
- Investment projections compound your current balance and planned contributions at the annual rate you chose, before tax and before fees, unless the screen says otherwise.
- Debt payoff plans model fixed payments at the interest rate you entered, using either avalanche (highest rate first) or snowball (smallest balance first) ordering.
- Budget progress compares transactions dated in the period against the budget for that period, including pending items where the bank reports them.
Where a screen makes an assumption, it says so on the screen. If a result looks wrong, it usually means an input is wrong — start there.
8. AI-generated content
Insights, forecasts, chat answers, receipt readings and category suggestions may be produced by AI models. They are labelled in the interface, are not reviewed by a person before you see them, and can be confidently wrong.
Treat AI output as a prompt to check something, never as a conclusion. The AI Usage Policy explains the safeguards and how to report a bad answer.
9. Third-party links and content
Links to banks, brokers, government pages or articles are provided for convenience. We do not endorse them, do not control them and are not responsible for their content or their products.
